Vocal probes and thought games …
»… the tone of the voice, the gesture, the smiles, the attention directed by the turn of the head towards one person or another«.
Mich interessiert die öffentliche, situationsbezogene künstlerische Darbietung von Theorie — oder sagen wir das lautmalerische Gedankenspiel. Diese Gedankenspiele bewegen sich in teils engeren und teils weiteren Kreisen um das Thema »Kybernetik« und die Frage, wie wir unserer Zeit heute richtig begegnen können, wie wir uns (als Bio-Adapter) angesichts der Unüberschaubarkeit unserer Lebenswelten oder besser, unserer Lebensverhältnisse orientieren können. Die Regeln der herkömmlichen Theorievorlesung möchte ich damit überwinden und zu einem erweitern Ausdrucksmittel finden. Mein Vorbild hier ist Laurie Anderson … sie hat das alles schon erfunden und vorexerziert. Auch Nicolas Collins (den ich 2015 einmal zu Gast hatte) hat hier beeindruckende Grenzgänge absolviert. Bis heute konnte ich dieses (für mich neue) Stilmittel in Venedig, Zürich und nun auch in Wien erproben. Ich arbeite zur Zeit mit einem Vocoder (Roland VP-03) und werde alsbald einen Theremin (Doepfer A-178) hinzufügen. Mit diesem Setup kann ich meine vocal probes mittels gestischer Interaktionen umfassender als bisher manipulieren.
I’m interested in the public, situation-related artistic performance of theory – or let’s say in the phonetic play of (with) thought and meaning. These thought-games move around the topic “cybernetics” and the question, how we can meet our time today correctly, how we can orient ourselves (as bio-adapters) in view of the unmanageability of our life-worlds or better, of our living conditions. I like to overcome the rules of the conventional theory lecture and find an extended means of expression. My role model here is Laurie Anderson … Laurie has already invented and demonstrated all this. Nicolas Collins (whom I had as a guest in 2015) also completed impressive border crossings here. To this day I have been able to test this (for me new) thought-games in Venice, Zurich and now also in Vienna. I am currently working with a vocoder (Roland VP-03) and will add a theremin (Doepfer A-178) soon. With this setup I can then use gestural interactions to manipulate my vocal probes more comprehensively than before.
